FlashCamp Day 2

October 12, 2008

Well! This is The Year of The Designer, all the changes and new features are GUI. The Panels and layout are different and more informative and have more editing options. – The Timeline is back!

The Pixel Bender does sorta what I said but to be more precise, it is used to create a Filter, i.e., plug-in like Eye-Candy, to use within Flash.

But I’ve seen some many other features and learned a little bit too.

The Bone Tool will animate a JPG image; you can create joints anywhere within a bitmap and animate it! Or create shapes and string them together with a Bone and animate them like a marionette. The tool includes a constriction setting so arms don’t swing backwards, etc. – Tip: If you are creating something complicated like a running panther, create the each limb, etc., on a separate layer.

Tween paths now have Bezier points.

Key Frames are automatically created! (No more F6.)

Flash now has something called a ‘Motion Editor.’ – This will display the Key Frames on separate layers with  Bezier paths, that can be manipulated! The layers can be expanded (tall rows) for viewing.

My Team: Today I am working with Fred Decker, creator of BAADAUG’s neon logo. (Garnet didn’t make it, he’s an Adobe employee so it is not surprising he found something else to do.) Fred has a project that will help you find your favorite Golden Gate spot, I christened it “Park on Demand” – He like the name. Fred is very compitive but also easily distracted. – I’ll let you know how it goes…

FlashCamp Day 1

October 11, 2008

So, I’ve seen a bunch of new toys, I mean tools, but I don’t know of all the things I can do with them yet. For instance; what does the Pixel Bender do? I saw it demoed but I still can’t remember what it does; it distorts an image something like PhotoShop’s ‘Find the Edges’ or Polarization. But I can’t figure out why I need a tool to do that. – I’ll comeback to it later.

I was unable to install the FLA 10 player plug-in for Firefox, the installer insisted I had a copy of FF open when I didn’t.

I’m teaming with an Adobe employee, not an event organizer or ‘FLA Person’, Garnet Chaney, we are going to add features to a favorite game of his. – More later when I have a better handle on it.

I was unable to install the FLA 10 player plug-in for Firefox, the installer insisted I had a copy of FF open when I didn’t(!)

I asked Garnet if he’d help me grammar-map an ActionScipt file; you know like we used to diagram sentences? I want to ID the functions/verbs & object/nouns & method/verb or adjective, etc. Also, what do the lines do, i.e., what determines what direction the loop is going in, etc.

Well, time to get back to my FLA/Adobe exploring, will check-in tomorrow afternoon, stay tuned…
